Using FAST Check as a Caregiver

When and how to run a FAST assessment, what the results mean, and what to do if a result is abnormal.

Emergency first

If you suspect a stroke, call emergency services immediately. FAST Check is a guide, not a diagnosis. When in doubt, call — every minute of a stroke costs brain tissue.

FAST stands for Face, Arms, Speech, Time. AphaSay's FAST Check walks you through the first three with live face-tracking, then reminds you that Time is critical.

How to run it

  1. 1Open FAST Check from the home screen.
  2. 2Face — ask the person to smile; the app checks for droop on one side.
  3. 3Arms — ask them to raise both arms; watch for one drifting down.
  4. 4Speech — ask them to repeat a simple phrase; listen for slurring.

Reading the result

A flagged result means one or more signs may be present. It is not a diagnosis — it is a prompt to act. A clear result does not rule a stroke out if symptoms continue.

Practice mode

Use Practice mode to get familiar with the steps when there's no emergency, so that if a real one happens you already know the flow.
